- Idle Nook Horse Camp LLC is owned and operated by Jack and Mitzie Stevens. Many of you out there know us and have ridden with us over the years. We like to have fun and love being around all our horseback friends, so this is a dream come true for us! We bought the property back in fall of 2008 and it had 4 hookups. We had friends up in late October and decided we needed to add more spots, so with much help from family and friends that’s what we did. We know have 22 spots with electric and water hookups. For those of you that don’t have living quarters, we have 1 bunkhouse with 2 twin beds and 1 bunkhouse with a queen size bed, loveseat, and bathroom. We have a brand new enclosed pavillion with a complete kitchen and bathrooms/showers. We also have ice available for purchase! No matter what the weather may be there is a nice place to gather! We also have a karaoke stage available for the nightly entertainment! (Quiet time begins at 10:00 so we can all get our sleep for the next day’s ride!)There are over a hundred and thirty miles of marked trails with new trails being added constantly. The trails are marked with colored ribbons on the trails we created, and the Fourche Mountain trails are marked by yellow rectangles! Maps are provided!! We like woods riding the best so that’s what we’re trying to add the most. There are waterfalls, scenic mountain vistas, beautiful rock formations, plenty of creek crossings, abandoned silver mines and miles and miles of endless riding. Rides can range from a short one hour ride to a day full of riding! The Ouachita National Forest is absolutely beautiful.
There is something for everyone! We have a very laid back, peaceful atmosphere. Please call ahead and make reservations before coming to ride just in case we’re booked and we can give you a spot number! From the campground you have a view of Buck Knob Mountain on one side and more mountain ranges on the other side. We fell in love with the campground the first time we saw it. There is a huge forest service pond that borders our property for those that want to throw a hook in!
For dining, nearby Y-City has a convenience store (with deli) for any needs. Mena and Mount Ida are about 30 minutes away. Fort Smith and Hot Springs are an hour away! There are plenty of activities around the area such as Lake Ouachita and the Ouachita River for floating or kayaking! The Ouachita Trail is nearby for hikers!
